The UiLA Information Literacy Paul G. Zurkowski, Esquire Awards are awarded to recognize information literate public servants and leaders in **countries/US states/areas/communities based on the following criteria:
1. The winners are public servants and other leaders of a country/US state/area/communitiy who consistently create good value, relative to others and the IL standard*, from reliable sources that is accurate/authentic, that gives appropriate access, taking into consideration context, while being clear using relevant data in refining the information to its maximum value with a good goal that is timely for the most beneficial decision making and problem solving.

2. *IL Standard/Definition: Information Literacy is the ability to extract, accept and create good value from reliable sources for the most beneficial decision making and problem solving.
3. Zurkowski's 30-page IL founding document and other criteria from the book, Information Literacy...Fueling...Action Literacy by Zurkowski and Kelly
4. United States', United Nations' and other reliable raw data on officials/public servants/leaders, their countries, areas, communities & governments
5. Feedback from IL Professionals (ILPs) worldwide
6. Align with Paul Zurkowski's values, perspectives and legacy
**The UiLA Zurkowski Awards Committee is recusing any American states/countries/areas/communities from consideration that are represented by current or former UiLA committee members for the Zurkowski Awards to avoid any conflicts of interest. As of this writing Maryland, Washington, DC, the United States, China and Bolivia will NOT be considered for the Zurkowski Awards.
The second Zurkowski Awards will be announced October and November 2024 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the naming, defining and launching of IL 1974-2024!
